Yet the disease is as old as mankind.
When we fall ill, we should remember that we need all the resources that are available to us to overcome the disease: Here is Norman Cousins:
“The more serious the illness, the more important it is for you to fight back, mobilizing all your resources-spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical.”
Diseases know no bounds. It affects the high and the low.
Therefore, we should take comfort in the knowledge that we are not alone nor are we being specifically persecuted. Some people have even been through worse experiences: Listen to Annie Lennox
“I've been through a lot in my life - you know, loss, whether it be death, illness, separation. I mean the failed expectations... We all have dreams”.
The first stage of a healing process is summed by Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton
“Refuse to be ill. Never tell people you are ill; never own it to yourself. Illness is one of those things which a man should resist on principle at the onset.”
This is neither a denial nor a recipe for not seeking appropriate timely help. Rather it is a principle that you will get what you say and your confession is your possession.
In spite of this, we know diseases do come and time of a disease is a testing time. On such occasions we need reassuring word to see us through. Here is one:
“Even though I walk through the valley of shadow of death, I shall fear no evil ...
Or
“Why are you cast down, oh my soul…, Hope in God….” (Psalmist).
In that case, Psalms 42, Psalm 126 in both mental health disorder and physical illness, are most relevant for healing provided you have honest faith in the word you are affirming. In major illness or impending catastrophe, this can be combined with Psalm 91. Remember, illness is a limitation on your liberty hence it is a form of captivity. Try Encouraging Poems
Affirming the stated words of encouragement and prayer sets the scene to achieve the desired result of well-being. Remember the above words matter as:
“... He sent his word, and healed them, and delivered them from their destructions and ... He cast out the spirits with his word, and healed all that were sick” (Psalmist and Matthew...) Continue here to buy the book now
What if you swallow your pride and say:
Or
“Heal me, O Lord and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved” (Jeremiah)
And
“Have mercy upon me, O Lord; for I am weak: O Lord, heal me; for my bones are vexed”. (Psalmist)
We should bear in mind that whosoever you are or whatever one may be, we are all subject to the ups and downs of life. No one is immune. Never forget though that nothing lasts forever, this too will pass!... Continue here
What if the illness such as cancer or any other illness has been described by doctors as terminal ( effectively a death sentence)? Clearly, here hope is very thin. Yet at this stage, word of encouragement will still achieve a great deal, for word has incredible power . Here is a response I wrote in letter / card form, not too long ago when someone told me about the illness of a friend described as terminal:
"Dear....

I believe in miracles. We can not give up hope even at this stage for nothing is impossible for... Continue here . ...Buy the book
